Petition for the new City Council to appoint the new City Manager
Lynchburg City Council Ward Elections occur on May 5th, and the City Manager, Bonnie Svrcek, has announced her retirement for the end of June. Whoever you (the people) choose for the next group of elected leaders to craft public policy and fund our city will convene on July 1st, and they should be able to appoint a City Manager that supports the public policy initiatives they set for the direction of our city.
With a shift in the balance of power on City Council at stake this May, it should be left up to the new City Council to appoint a City Manager that aligns with their public policy initiatives and the platforms you elected them on. The City Manager is the key employee for our local government, acting as the Chief Executive Officer for the local government. In order to prevent budget and policy proposals that appeal to a bureacratic agenda in the direction of our current council, with insane spending on frivolous special interest projects that have limited impact and sometimes questionable utility, it's imperative that City Council adopts waits to appoint the new City Manager until either after the election, or after the new Council convenes if the election results in a shift of the balance of power in our local government.
Sign the petition now, and put your name on the record supporting the cause to delay appointment until the new council convenes, or we know that a shift in the balance of power will not occur after the election on May 5th. We would not want a newly appointed City Council to have to battle with a bureacratic agenda put in place by a previous City Council where the majority does not listen to the people it serves.
Sign the petition so we can present it to City Council!
